I wanted to welcome you [back] to my Nancy’s Notes & Anecdotes where I hope you will find helpful tidbits of inspiration and insight that I stumble across on my journey helping women in business be more successful. Let’s chat.
Quote I’m pondering:
“Wrinkles will only go where the smiles have been.”
— Jimmy Buffett
Book I’m reading:
A Year of Living Consciously: 365 Daily Inspirations for Creating a Life of Passion and Purpose, by Gay Hendricks. Love, love, love this! This is a ‘start where you are’ kind of book. It is a day-at-a-time guide so you can learn a bite-sized piece of just-in-time wisdom and meditate on it throughout the day. Each day of the year has a quote, a topic, and a Conscious Living Practice of Today prompt/write up.
Need an example? Here you go…July 9th’s practice invites us to commit to honoring the artist who lives in our heart and let the artist know that she will not starve from our neglect.
The entry has two wonderful prompts:
The thing that I most like to create is ___________.
Today I will nurture my artist by __________.
What would your answers be? I’d love to hear your thoughts, here.
How I spent my time:
… after a breakfast meeting last week I indulged in some ‘me time’ and walked into a bookstore. Yep! I’m that person who walks into a bookstore and thinks this is heaven. I read a lot and Amazon is one of my very dear ‘friends’ and supplier of choice. But there is truly nothing like walking into a bookstore and seeing and touching and yes, smelling those books and magazines and boxes of art projects. Two hours later, with a bunch of books and magazines and a new journal to treasure I walked out happy. Do you like bookstores too?
Ideas I’m Noodling…
I’ve been focusing on time management. So much to do and not enough time… and then, the universe spoke to me from my inbox. Included in Light Watkins’ daily dose of inspiration was a quote from Arnold Bennett. Ahhhh….
This is a great reminder for us all to reframe our thoughts and language. Repeat after me:
“I have all the time in the world!”
“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” -Arnold Bennett
Great Women of Business Podcast. Beautiful and inspiring stories of women changing the face of business and how they did it. The podcast looks at their lives, their unique challenges and the paths they forged. The common thread in all of them is that they teach the business principles they used to find success.
Episode 7 blew me away and I think you’ll feel the same way – it’s the story of Brownie Wise. She didn’t just sell Tupperware, she revolutionized sales strategies and created lasting opportunities for working mothers by leveraging what we women do best: collaborate.
I’ve been asked to introduce author Gay Hendricks at the Women of Color Empowerment Institute’s 8th annual conference. I can’t tell you what an honor this is! Mr. Hendricks will be the keynote presenter at the kickoff event of the conference on September 7th. I have been reading his books and listening to his presentations and I can honestly say that his work is life changing. He speaks to the professional, personal and spiritual sides of you. He is a prolific writer who has inspired many to live more authentically and to show up intentionally.
In case you missed them, you can catch up on my Notes & Anecdotes here. I hope you’ll find ideas that spur your imagination and creativity to help propel you forward on your adventure.
