Government Contracting, Part 1 of 3: I know someone who sold kitty litter to the Federal Government

AND she was doing very well with that contract! Here’s the story: The pets of choice for our armed forces are cats. Makes sense, no? They travel easily and you don’t have to worry about having a yard. The kitty litter is sold at commissaries in the US and around the world. Kitty litter is also used to absorb oil and is perfect for engine clean up.

What I’m trying to convey is that the federal government buys EVERYTHING you can imagine and some that are not so obvious. Do you have a product or service that you think the federal government might need? Take a look at this link for information about the General Services Administration: http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/101163, and then look at the following link

GSA FY 2015 Agency-wide Forecast (dated 2-24-15)

The GSA FY 2015 Agency-wide Forecast lists all the things that the Federal Government will be buying. The good news is that the list gives a lot of info you can use such as:

  • Contract type
  • Procurement method
  • Competition strategy
  • Estimate contract value
  • Incumbent contractor
  • Contract officer
  • Solicitation date
  • Award date
  • Point of contact

WBENC is a third party certification organization for the Small Business Administration. That means that we can help you access federal contracts and opportunities. The process is simple: Get WBENC certified and let us know that you want to apply for the Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) program. Once we verify that your company is majority woman owned we can let you know if you qualify in one of the 84 categories that have been identified as favorable to women businesses.

There are no guarantees that you will be awarded a contract because you qualify within the 84 categories, BUT the WBDC Florida and WBENC are here to help you get started.

Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3 of this blog post:

Part 2 will provide info on resources available through WBENC
