I have the advantage of being both on the Board of the WBDC Florida and a WBENC Certified WBE. It’s easy to wear both hats because not only can I promote the mission of the WBDC, I can also actually bear witness to the benefits of certification. I have landed some pretty significant business with fellow certified WBEs. I’ve made incredible contacts around the country and internationally as well. The most amazing part: getting to know and learn from successful women business owners. It’s a wonderful sisterhood that is supported by an incredible network of corporate sponsors who are genuinely interested in promoting women owned businesses.

The World Trade Center Miami, WEConnect International and the WBDC Florida are a dynamic triad that support and promote women in business. Our most recent collaboration was at the 18th Americas Food and Beverage Show. The World Trade Center Miami provided complimentary booths to 14 women owned businesses in the first ever Women’s Pavilion at the show. The WBDC Florida and WEConnect International identified women owned businesses from South Florida and Latin America. The women business owners really enjoyed the experience which included pre-conference workshops as well as exposure through on-sight media coverage. They made great contacts and some have told us that they are quickly moving into contract negotiations with potential distributors. It’s amazing what women business owners can do when they are supported and provided with access, education and opportunities!

Being a certified woman owned business has benefited The DW Group in many ways. Our first contract was to create the WBENC Legacy Program for all WBEs and Corporate Sponsors. Second we received a Sam’s Club contract for our Houdini Collection. Currently we are working on a contract with the military for the base exchange in the Fashion Apparel arena. My recommendation if you are a woman owned business is to get certified. This certification will open many doors for you and give you the opportunity to network with successful and powerful business women who want to do business with you and your company.

I’ve been a Site Visit Volunteer for 8 years so I’ve had a great deal of experience with the WBENC certification process.  It is thorough, detailed and objective.  Each application is reviewed by a committee that has been trained at the national level and each new file is subject to a site visit.  As a Site Visit Volunteer I know the importance of this visit.  It’s our chance to really verify the legitimacy of the business and to assure that it is a bona fide woman owned business.  I love doing site visits because I meet incredible women with inspiring and amazing stories.   As a former WBENC certified business owner myself, I also like sharing information about how certification can help businesses grow regionally, nationally and internationally!

WBENC is the leading third party certifier and advocate of women owned business to corporate America and the federal government. The WBENC WBE certification process is rigorous, thorough and designed to validate that a business is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more women and whose daily operations are managed by a woman (women). The process includes an online application, supporting documentation and a site visit.  We have partnered with 14 Regional Partner Organizations to provide the certification on our behalf in all 50 states and some U.S. territories.  In addition to the WBE certification, WBENC also offers the WOSB (Woman Owned Small Business) certification on behalf of the Small Business Administration, which provides certified companies with access to federal contracting opportunities.
