30 March 2018 – Nancy’s Notes & Anecdotes

I wanted to welcome you [back] to my Nancy’s Notes & Anecdotes where I hope you will find helpful tidbits of inspiration and insight. Please do share your thoughts with me – we learn and grow together and from each other as women in business when we collaborate.

“Passion is one great force that unleashes creativity, because if you’re passionate about something, then you’re more willing to take risks.” (Yo-Yo Ma)

“I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude.” (Brene Brown)

BTW, check out a great downloadable worksheet, a companion to her book titled Braving the Wilderness at Work that I thought was especially helpful. Let me know what you think!

Meetings I’m attending:

2017 Top Corporations FactsThis week I’m following up on last week’s Summit and Salute meetings. I’ve been sending out letters and adding people to our mailing list. Didn’t attend the event? You can still send a note of congratulations to the Top Corporations. Or you might consider commenting on the LinkedIn articles that WBENC has written about the Top Corporations.

Book I’m reading

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace: Empowering Organizations by Encouraging PeopleThe 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace: Empowering Organizations by Encouraging People, by Gary Chapman and Paul White. This book builds on the same concept Chapman put forth in his book: The 5 Love Languagesand shows that we each have a particular way we like to be appreciated in the workplace. The 5 languages are (1) Words of Affirmation; (2) Quality Time; (3) Acts of Service; (4) Tangible Gifts; (5) Physical Touch. The book also includes a code to access an assessment you can take to determine your primary and secondary language of appreciation. Wouldn’t it be great to find out what resonates best with your employees? When you speak someone’s language they feel appreciated and that turns into motivation which turns into better performance.
